Vintage Leeds & Northrup Portable Reflecting Light Beam Galvanometer 2420

Description

This is a vintage Leeds & Northrup Portable Reflecting Light Beam Galvanometer made between 1938-1946. It is a device used to measure low level electric currents. This galvanometer uses a mirror instead of a moving needle. There is a small light bulb which shines through a small magnifying glass onto a mirror, which the last picture shows. You can also see the horseshoe magnet lying horizontally. The tag on the top of the box says CAT No 2420 SERIAL No 1042701. The exterior of the box has some scratches and a small ding on the top lid. The finish is worn off in some places, and there is residue on the front from tape or a label which the third picture shows. The box weights 5 Lbs and measures 8 1/2" long by 4 1/2" wide and 5 1/4 tall.  Interesting scientific instrument. This piece has not been tested.
